MSW: Passive Aggressive Dinner

Each word in the title of this post has a double consonant! WOW!

MSW: Passive Aggressive Dinner

In this particular comic I’m not too happy with a few things. I think I don’t like the way the mouths escape the face in panels one and two (but I do like it in panel three). I think my aghast expression in the third panel doesn’t quite fit the text. And worst of all, I think My Spazzy Wife looks like Birdo in the third panel. Just a little.

But this comic does showcase MSW’s new Cat skirt. Pretty, huh!?!

IN MY DEFENSE - he’d been gone for weeks and my roommate and I had gotten in the habit of just kinda making cold meals/snacks for dinner. The “gourmet meal” I prepared with new spices, was a freaking wrap. I’m not even sure I bothered to put sandwhich meat in it.

The coveted “Cream of Carrot Soup”

Ok, today I thought I’d snazz things up with my super-secret, award-winning* CREAM OF CARROT SOUP

Don’t be scared off by the name - the “cream” portion is only the addition of a little sour cream at the end. The soup is a pureed blend of carrots and other veggies and herbs that simmer together. This smooth, rich soup is warm and comforting. Unlike many carrot soup recipes, I do not add the flavour of ginger, and opt for a more earthy flavour. This soup is very healthy, very flavourful, and even vegetarian.

I can’t offer you a picture today because weasel stole the camera chord. However, I will upload elsewhere tonight.

In the meantime, WOULD YOU EAT THIS SOUP!? (or you at least curious about the picture?)

UPDATE:

THE SOUP! At long last!!!

You can see there is still some texture to the soup in this picture.

Depending on which “other veggies” you are talking about, this sounds very similar to one of my favorite Spanish dishes: puree. I’m sure they didn’t invent it, but my host parents were the first people I ever knew to eat it regularly. Carrots, leeks, and potatoes were the most common ingredients. No sour cream though, olive oil. kudos on the innovation, sounds good to me.

    PICTURES!

Also I know the “other veggies” thing is vague, but if I got into specifics then my “secret recipe” would be kind of pointless. There are no potatoes in it though - it’s quite a light dish, though probably a bit high in natural sugars because of the carrots.

Just random puree? That sounds kind of interesting. Was it like a soup then? Or was it thick enough to hold its shape?

Uh, somewhere in the middle, I guess. We definitely ate it with a spoon, but it was way thicker than yours. Almost like runny mashed potatoes.

Shrimp and Sausage Gumbo

Though gumbo is basically a whatever-I-have-left-in-the-house-goes-in-the-pot recipe, I accidently stumbled upon what will probably be my standard recipe from now on.

random-022.jpg

The recipe is fairly healthy - full of veggies and made with very little oil. The “sausages” I use are actually turkey sausages. No rice or potatoes or anything in it either, so those doing low-carb can be happy as well. And yet, this soup is full of flavour!

So…WOULD YOU EAT THIS??

I don’t like shrimp in soup very much, but that toast looks delicious. Also, is that a horsey sleigh on that mug?

This soup looks a little too light for my tastes. Not enough ’stuff’ in it. It seems like something I would have if I were sick. :/

However, my perspective may change if I actually taste it =)

I had a request for more details on the flavour itself. Which is fair enough - I hadn’t actually realized I’d left that out!

It is indeed a lighter soup - the broth is tomato-y, but with a bit of spiciness too. The broth itself doesn’t taste like seafood, but the sausages add a lot of garlic flavour.

Another thing that is different with this particular soup is the veggies. As is a little bit evident from the photo, the veggies are a little charred, but they retained some of their crunchiness still. This is because they were cooked first, seperately from the broth.

And yes foley, that is a horsey sleigh! Good identifying. Your prize is toast.

Vegetarian Pea Soup

…except not really vegetarian. This week. I didn’t have/make any vegetable stock, so I made it with beef this time. But usually I make this one vegetarian.

Actually, there was a host of problems with the soup this week. I tried using the crock pot again, and freaked out that it might burn through the night, so then added too much water, resulting in a thinner soup than usual. Also I left out the celery, because ours went bad. Oh and I was drunk while I was making it, which always helps things.

So this was the result:

So forget this particular soup. If it was a little thicker, actually vegetarian (with the right veggies), and the cook had been less inebreiated during the cooking process, WOULD YOU EAT THIS SOUP??

Drinking Game #10

Looks like weasel is playing catch-up this week too, so I (weasel) am going to have to cover for him with this quick article!

There’s some drinking game instructions on my desk, and a few years back I recall playing one of them. Drinking game #10: Sausages.

The basic idea is you pick someone to start with, and they must sit there with a straight face (no smiling or smirking or all-out-laughing allowed) whilst the rest of the crowd barrages them with questions. The recipient must answer each question with the word “SAUSAGES.”

The penalty for breaking the face of stone is you must drink a shot (or drink two fingers of whatever).

Obviously as the liquor pours more freely and the questions get more… Let’s say… Personal… The game gets quite hilarious. I recommend it.

I recommend it, like, right the hell now.
